Starting in Fall 2022, I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at California State University, Los Angeles. You can reach me at jtroyka@calstatela.edu.
Hi! I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in mathematics at Davidson College, teaching 2-3 courses each semester and researching enumerative and algebraic combinatorics. I study permutations, symmetric functions, and graph enumeration. I earned my BA in mathematics at Carleton College (Minnesota), and I earned my PhD in mathematics at Dartmouth College where my advisor was Sergi Elizalde. After that, I spent two years as a postdoctoral visitor at York University (Toronto) and collaborated on research with Neal Madras.
Here at Davidson College, I have been teaching some fun classes, including Calculus 3, Linear Algebra, and Exploring Mathematical Ideas. I have also been working on combinatorics research with colleague Yan Zhuang, studying the enumeration of permutations avoiding certain consecutive patterns, refined by inverse descent number or inverse peak number.
